Smoothie bars, shake brands and drink-mix makers are swapping frozen fruit and purées for freeze-dried fruit powder. It needs no freezer, adds no extra water, and a scoop is easy to measure the same way every time. This guide explains how to choose the right powders for your smoothie, shake or drink mix.
Pick Powders by the Job They Do
- Colour — blueberry, raspberry and blackberry give deep purples and reds.
- Sharpness — lemon, lime, passionfruit and sour cherry add a tangy lift.
- Body and sweetness — mango and banana round out a blend.
Most brands build a blend from two or three of these, for example berry for colour, banana for body and a little lime for brightness.
Read the Ingredient List
Not every fruit powder is just fruit. Some are spray-dried onto carriers, and some contain an anti-caking agent to stop clumping. Our mango powder, for example, is 98% mango and 2% anti-caking agent (E551). Each of our product pages lists its ingredients, so you know exactly what goes into your label. For the difference between powder types, see freeze-dried vs spray-dried fruit powder.
Mixing Tips
- Blend powders into the liquid rather than stirring them on top.
- Keep powders sealed and dry; they clump if they take up moisture. Once a bag is open, use it within a week.
